The Sharjah Masters international chess tournament in the UAE is underway, with Azerbaijani grandmaster Ahmad Ahmadzada experiencing his first defeat in the fourth round.
Ahmadzada lost to one of the tournament favorites, Iranian grandmaster Parham Maghsoodloo, who is ranked third by rating among the participants, Idman.biz reports.
With two points after four rounds, Ahmadzada currently sits in 31st place on the leaderboard.
Fellow Azerbaijani players Riad Samedov and Mahammad Muradli played to a draw in their most recent match and now have 1.5 points each.
Dutch grandmaster Anish Giri leads the tournament with 3.5 points.
