Azerbaijani grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov has retained his position in the world rankings despite losing several rating points.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) has published its latest world rankings as of September 1, 2026.
Azerbaijan's highest-ranked grandmaster Mammadyarov remains 22nd in the world despite losing three ELO points, with his rating now standing at 2720.
The other Azerbaijani players in the world's top 100 are Teimour Radjabov (2689) in 38th place, Aydin Suleymanli (2664) in 49th, Mahammad Muradli (2653) in 63rd and Rauf Mamedov (2631) in 91st.

In the women's world rankings, Azerbaijan's top player Ulviyya Fataliyeva suffered a significant drop over the reporting period. She lost 38 rating points and fell from 25th to 43rd place with a rating of 2402.
Fataliyeva played 11 rated games over the past month, with a difficult run of results contributing to the sharp decline.
The other Azerbaijani women in the world's top 100 are Govhar Beydullayeva (2392) in 53rd place, Khanim Balajayeva (2356) in 82nd and Gunay Mammadzada (2351) in 90th.
Azerbaijan has also lost one position in the ranking of the world's leading chess nations, which is calculated based on the average rating of each country's top 10 players.
With an average rating of 2627, Azerbaijan has dropped to seventh place. Uzbekistan, with 2628 points, has moved ahead into sixth.
