The referee who unfairly ruled against our boxer at last month’s European Schoolboys Boxing Championship in Serbia has not gone unpunished.
In response to the protest letter sent by the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation to the International Boxing Association (IBA), as well as the efforts made to protect our athlete’s rights, referee Stefan Subalevski will be permanently stripped of his referee title, Idman.biz reports.
IBA President Umar Kremlev announced this via his personal social media account.
In his video statement, he noted that the referee should not have acted arbitrarily during the bout of Azerbaijani national team member Yusif Aghakishiyev (75 kg) at the European Championship for schoolboys: “This is both a call from IBA and a demand from the boxing family for clean boxing. Anyone who violates the values of sport has no place, not in IBA, and not in sport. We are taking strict measures to prevent such incidents.”
Kremlev emphasized that the referee who officiated the fight will be permanently banned from boxing: “I support the coach of the boxer, but his behavior was also not right and should not have happened. There are special bodies, disciplinary and ethics commissions, to make decisions on such matters. But the referee must be permanently removed.”
For reference, during the European Schoolboys Championship held in Zlatibor, Serbia, Azerbaijani boxer Yusif Aghakishiyev, competing in the 75 kg weight category, was unjustly deprived of the championship in the final bout against local athlete Viktor Majstrovic. The head referee from North Macedonia, Stefan Subalevski, made biased decisions in favor of the opponent, and the prematurely stopped bout was awarded to the Serbian boxer.
