Azerbaijan national team coach: "The team's performance at the World Cup is satisfactory"

The performance of the Azerbaijan boxing team at the World Cup held in Astana, Kazakhstan, was satisfactory.

According to Idman.biz, the team’s head coach Nariman Abdullayev told Report that despite some key boxers missing the tournament due to injury, the rest performed well: “Several leaders, including Alfonso Dominguez, couldn’t travel due to injuries. Still, our boxers performed admirably. Subhan Mammadov (50 kg), in particular, did very well in his category, even though it was his first time competing in a senior-level World Cup. The fight could have gone in our favor, but it didn’t, his opponent was a well-known and strong boxer.

In the heavier categories, our athletes won two matches. It’s always tough to beat Kazakh boxers. While there were some shortcomings, overall, our performance at the World Cup was definitely satisfactory.”

Abdullayev expressed hope that they would be able to attend the upcoming World Championship with a full squad: “We’ll now prepare for the World Championship, and I hope we can go with a complete team.”

Azerbaijan's Subhan Mammadov (50 kg), Mahammadali Gasimzade (60 kg), and Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) each won bronze medals at the tournament.
