The Victory Cup boxing tournament has officially kicked off in Russia, with Azerbaijan making a strong start.
Competing under the name Baku, the national team began its campaign from the quarterfinal stage. In the opening bout held in Perm, Azerbaijan faced off against the Ural team.
In a tightly contested match, Baku emerged victorious with a 3:2 scoreline. The showdown consisted of four-round matches, where three Azerbaijani boxers secured wins:
Zaur Gahramanov defeated Mark Urvanov, Saidjamshid Jafarov overcame Khishbakht Kuldashev and Muhammad Abdullayev triumphed over Aleksandr Dorofeev.
With this win, Team Baku has advanced to the semifinals, scheduled for May 29 in Saransk.
