A major scandal occurred at the final bout of the 2025 World Boxing Championship in Dubai, UAE, involving Russian boxer Vsevolod Shumkov.
According to Idman.biz, during the fight for the gold medal in the 60 kg weight category against Olympic champion from Uzbekistan Abdumalik Khalokov, Shumkov bit his opponent on the ear.
The incident sparked a strong reaction within the boxing community. Uzbek journalist Jalol Ahmedov wrote on the social network X that such an action is a clear violation of the rules and should result in disqualification.
Despite the incident, the final bout was not stopped. At the end of the fight, the judges awarded a split decision victory to Vsevolod Shumkov, who was declared the IBA world champion.
