U.S. Basketball Championship game ends in on-court brawl - VIDEO

A group stage game of the U.S. Basketball Championship ended in a brawl.

Players from Argentina and the Dominican Republic started fighting after the referee’s final whistle, Idman.biz reports.

One of the main participants in the fight was San Antonio forward David Jonse-Garcia, who struck several opponents in the face.

Despite trailing on the scoreboard for 35 minutes, the Dominican Republic forced overtime and ultimately won 84-83.

FIBA has issued disciplinary measures for the incident.

David Jonse-Garcia received a two-game suspension. His teammates Juan Guerrero, Juan Suero, and Angel Delgado were each suspended for one game. Since Delgado is on a three-year probation, he may miss an additional game.

From Argentina, Gonzalo Bressan received a two-game suspension, while Francisco Caffaro and Juan Vaulet were each suspended for one game. The team’s head coach must pay a fine of 2,000 Swiss francs.

Additionally, the basketball federations of both countries were fined 20,000 Swiss francs each, with 10,000 francs suspended under a three-year probation period.
