The men's basketball team of Sabah has been crowned Azerbaijan champions for the third consecutive time.
The Baku-based club has now matched Mahsul in the number of national championship titles, Idman.biz reports.
Mahsul had won the first three editions of the Azerbaijan Championship, starting from 1993. Now, with three straight golds of their own, Sabah and Mahsul trail only two other teams in the all-time leaderboard.
The absolute record belongs to NTD, who have won 9 titles, although their last one came six years ago.
Another former powerhouse, Gala, holds 8 championship trophies, though they last lifted the trophy 10 years ago.
Two-time champions Azans had their successes in the 1990s, while five different clubs have each won the championship once.
In total, 10 different clubs have secured the title over 30 seasons of the Azerbaijani Men's Basketball Championship. It’s worth noting that no championships were held in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons.
