Olympic medallist and former world and European champion Rasul Chunayev made a surprise appearance at a basketball game in Baku, underlining the growing crossover interest between sports in Azerbaijan, İdman.Biz reports.
Chunayev attended the match between Sabah and Absheron Lions, where he not only watched the action but also stepped onto the court to demonstrate his skills by scoring a basket, drawing warm reactions from fans in attendance.
Speaking about his passion for the game, the Greco-Roman wrestling star revealed that basketball has long played a role in his training routine and remains part of his life even after stepping away from professional competition.
“I love basketball very much. We Greco-Roman wrestlers often play it before training sessions. Even after finishing my professional career, I still play at least once or twice a week. It’s a sport that is very close to me,” Chunayev said.
He also highlighted the growing support for basketball in the country, noting that the sport is developing rapidly with strong backing at national level, and encouraged more people to take part.
