The fourth round of the Azerbaijan Premier League produced 26 goals, setting a new benchmark for the competition's recent history.
İdman.Biz reports, citing the Professional Football League, that four of the six matches featured five goals each. Sabah defeated Zira 5-0, Shamakhi beat Kapaz 4-1, Neftchi overcame Shafa 4-1, and Qarabağ secured a 3-2 victory over Araz-Nakhchivan.
The remaining two fixtures also provided plenty of goals. Gabala defeated Imishli 2-1, while Turan Tovuz recorded a 2-1 win against Sumgayit.
The round's average of 4.33 goals per match is the highest not only this season but also across the last six seasons of the Azerbaijani top flight.
A higher average was last recorded in the 2020/21 campaign. During the 10th round, played on November 21-23, 2020, four matches produced 19 goals, resulting in an average of 4.75 per game.
In terms of the total number of goals, the fourth round's tally is the highest in 21 seasons. The previous higher figure dates back to the 36th round of the 2005/06 season, when 27 goals were scored across seven matches on May 29-30, 2006. That round had an average of 3.86 goals per game.
The latest figures highlight an exceptionally attacking round of domestic football, with every fixture producing at least three goals and four matches reaching the five-goal mark.
