Baku-based football club Sabah are interested in Ferencvaros and Guinea midfielder Naby Keita.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Hungarian outlet Öltözőn Túl, the 31-year-old has emerged as a potential target for the Baku club as they prepare to make their debut in the UEFA Champions League league phase.
At this stage, the reports indicate interest in the player rather than an advanced deal. There is currently no information suggesting that an agreement has been reached between the parties.
Keita has been a permanent Ferencvaros player since January 2026. Before that, the Guinea international played for the Hungarian club on loan from Werder Bremen.
The most prominent period of the midfielder's career came at Liverpool, where he played from 2018 to 2023.
Keita won the UEFA Champions League with the English club in the 2018/19 season. Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-0 in the final at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid on June 1, 2019. Keita missed the final due to an adductor injury he had suffered in the first leg of the semi-final against Barcelona.
During his time at Liverpool, the Guinean also won the Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and English League Cup.
Sabah have also recently been linked with another midfielder, Zenit St Petersburg's Du Queiroz. According to Sport-Express, the 26-year-old Brazilian is expected to join the Baku club on loan.
It was later reported that Du Queiroz had already arrived in Baku to undergo a medical examination and that Sabah would have an option to buy the player at the end of the season. The transfer has not yet been officially announced.
Sabah will make their Champions League league-phase debut next week. Valdas Dambrauskas' side will face Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 10, with the match scheduled to kick off at 23:00 Baku time.
However, Sabah have significantly less time to strengthen their squad specifically for the Champions League than they do under Azerbaijan's domestic transfer regulations. Under UEFA rules, clubs must submit their List A squads for the league phase by 23:59 CET on September 2. Players registered by a club after that deadline will not be eligible to represent it during the Champions League league phase.
The summer transfer window in Azerbaijan will remain open considerably longer, closing at 23:59 on September 10.
