Qarabag end Dynamo Kyiv's 20-year run

Qarabag's progress to the UEFA Conference League play-off round after beating Dynamo Kyiv in the third qualifying round brought an end to the Ukrainian club's long-standing run.

According to İdman.Biz, following Qarabag's 2-0 victory, Dynamo Kyiv failed to progress from a European qualifying round for the first time in more than 20 years. According to UEFA, the Kyiv side had won the first leg 1-0.

The last time Dynamo Kyiv were eliminated at the qualifying stage was in the 2005/06 season, when they lost to Swiss club Thun 0-1 and drew 2-2 in the two legs.

Since then, the Kyiv side had reached at least the play-off round in every European campaign. Their tie against Qarabag brought that run to an end.

Moreover, it was the first time since 1992 that Dynamo Kyiv had failed to progress in European competition after winning the first leg of a tie.

It should be noted that Qarabag lost the first leg 0-1 but beat their opponents 2-0 in Baku to progress to the Conference League play-off round with a 2-1 aggregate victory.
