Azerbaijani champions Sabah have secured at least €8.98 million in UEFA revenue after reaching the Champions League play-off round.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the figure is based on the worst-case scenario: Sabah lose to Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the play-offs and then suffer defeat in all eight of their league-phase matches in the Europa League.
Clubs eliminated from the Champions League in the play-off round receive €4.29m. These teams automatically move into the Europa League league phase, where they receive a further €4.31m for participating.
Even if Sabah lose all eight matches and finish bottom of the 36-team league table, the club would receive an additional €75,000 for their final position.
Payments linked to the club coefficient, television market and other commercial factors are also taken into account. According to the calculations, Sabah could earn at least €307,000 from these sources.
Sabah have therefore guaranteed themselves a minimum of €8.98m in UEFA revenue by reaching the Champions League play-offs.
If Sabah overcome Hapoel Be’er Sheva and reach the Champions League league phase, their income will increase significantly. In that scenario, the minimum amount would be €20.17m.
Reaching the league phase itself would earn Sabah €18.62m. Even with eight defeats and a 36th-place finish, the club would receive a further €275,000.
Payments linked to the club coefficient and television market would amount to at least €1.28m in this scenario.
Therefore, even without earning a single point in the Champions League league phase, Sabah would collect at least €20.17m from UEFA if they reach the main stage of the competition.
The 2026/27 Champions League play-off matches are scheduled to take place on 18-19 and 25-26 August.
