Two-time Paralympic champion Ilham Zakiyev told Idman.biz this while commenting on the football match between Qarabag and MOIK clubs in the 1/8 final stage of the Azerbaijan Cup held in Khankendi.
The famous athlete expressed his regret that he could not witness the historical event with his own eyes. The athlete, who said that he is currently receiving treatment in Turkey, emphasized that he watched the report: "It was an exciting moment. I really liked President Ilham Aliyev's idea that the winner should be known regardless of the result of the game."
Zakiyev also spoke about the president's symbolic touch to the ball: "I really liked our head of state's symbolic touch to the ball, as well as how he left the field with a light run so as not to delay the game."
The head coach of the Paralympic champion Qarabag Gurban Gurbanov called the opinion expressed after the match a good initiative: "The intention to hold home games in the cup in Khankendi is a good initiative. It is very gratifying that our football has returned to Khankendi, and various tournaments are held in other occupied lands. I will gladly participate in the upcoming games."
