The opening ceremony of the National Taekwondo Championship among cadets, young athletes and adults, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, was held.
Idman.biz reports that the event was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, President of the Taekwondo Federation Kamaladdin Heydarov, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzada and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea to Azerbaijan Lee In-Yong.
At the ceremony, after the information about the competition, the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played. After that, a video about the contributions of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Azerbaijani sports was shown.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov said that 2023 was a successful year for Azerbaijani sports: "Our country hosted the world championship in taekwondo. The first license for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games in this type of sport has already been obtained. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who was with the athletes, received our athletes during a great game in Khankendi. Two of our taekwondo players were presented with an apartment. I believe that these successes will continue next year."
President of the Taekwondo Federation Kamaladdin Heydarov spoke about the importance of the competition. He said that during the period when the Great Leader led Azerbaijan, attention was paid to all areas of sports: "Azerbaijan's achievements in sports from the leadership of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev are visible. The development of taekwondo in Azerbaijan is more visible in recent years. It is no coincidence that the 50th anniversary of the World Taekwondo Federation was held in Azerbaijan. This was realized as a result of the state care for sports in our country. It is also gratifying that our taekwondo players won 1 out of 4 licenses and we have 3 chances. I congratulate each of the participants on a wonderful day. Athletes of the winning country must always serve to raise our flag in international arenas."
After the speeches, a video clip from the Taekwondo World Championship held in Azerbaijan was shown.
Later, the artistic part of the opening ceremony was held. Taekwondo players demonstrated their exemplary performance.
It should be noted that along with Baku, Sumgayit and Absheron, 28 city districts and 76 clubs in total participate in the Azerbaijan Championship. Competitions will be concluded on December 28.
