"Finally, the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games have begun, after four years of excitement from the sports world. Our 48 athletes, who acquired the right to represent our country in the quadrennial, will compete in 17 programs across 15 sports in Paris."
This was said by the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov while evaluating June, Idman.biz reports.
He said in the “Minister's Point of View” that Azerbaijani athletes went to the Olympic Games for the first time as representatives of a sovereign country whose territorial integrity has been completely restored: "The Khari Bulbul, which has become a symbol of the restoration of our sovereignty, is reflected in the specially designed uniforms for our Olympic team. I would like to mention that our team's new uniforms are one of the best uniforms at the Olympic Games. In general, we have created all conditions for our Olympic team both before and during the Games. The departure, accommodation, training and competition conveniences of our athletes have been fully resolved by the working group we have created in advance. At the Olympic Games, the main goal of which is participation, the athletes of each country fight to raise the flag and sing the anthem. Thanks to our judokas Hidayat Heydarov and Zelym Kotsoiev becoming Olympic champions, a new history was made in our sport. It is a great achievement that both of our judokas - Hidayat and Zelym won the title of world and Olympic champion in the last 2 months. On this occasion, I congratulate our Olympic champions, the Azerbaijan Judo Federation, and our sports community in general. Another success is that Azerbaijan took second place after Japan in the judo program of the Olympic Games. In other sports, our athletes continue to perform at the Olympics and fight hard for the next victories."
The minister drew attention to the operation of the Azerbaijani Olympic House in Paris for the first time during the Olympics: "Receptions are organized here for representatives of various countries and international sports organizations. This is a very important step in terms of promoting Azerbaijani sports and the Olympic Movement of our country. As part of my visit to France, I spoke at the Ministerial Forum "Change the Games" organized by UNESCO. During my speech, I gave extensive information about the sports achievements of our country. Within the framework of the event, I had many bilateral meetings with the leadership of UNESCO, as well as with many of my colleagues from other countries. We also signed memorandums of cooperation in the field of sports and youth with Gambia and Chad."
Gayibov emphasized that the development of the media is important in terms of sports promotion: "We have innovated so that our sports journalists can gain Olympic experience. For the first time, we sent 20 media representatives to the Paris Summer Olympics. This is a great experience for them, and they need to be with our athletes at the Olympic Games, to cover the competitions in a wide range of ways, and to promote our sports successes. We celebrated another significant date - the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on July 26, the same day as the opening of the Olympics. The ministry created by our national leader with foresight 30 years ago, today, based on the recommendations of the country's leadership, is trying to properly implement the state's policy in the fields of youth and sports. On the occasion of the anniversary, I congratulate the staff of the ministry, and everyone working in this field, and express my gratitude to all state and sports institutions and sports federations that cooperate with us. Per tradition, we had another meeting with Azerbaijani athletes and their coaches who successfully represented our country in continental and world championships and prestigious international competitions during the past month. The representatives of sports gave information about the competitions they participated in and the victories they won. The coaches of the national teams spoke about the preparation process and successes of our athletes."
The minister said that one of the significant events of the past month was the distinction of two sports complexes of Azerbaijan - the National Gymnastics Arena and Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex in the competition of the best sports facilities organized in Russia: "This is the result of the attention paid by the state to the sports infrastructure in our country. Attention to national sports games - ethno sports has been increasing in recent years, not only in our country but all over the world. There was a great interest in national sports at the National Grassland Festival organized again in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. In addition, "Healthy Life" days, which are among the projects of the ministry that have become a tradition, also attracted the interest of the festival participants. The various tournaments we hold among employees of state institutions are not only interesting but also important. The badminton, stand shooting and backgammon competitions we organized this month were received with interest by the employees of various institutions. Such competitions are very useful in terms of increasing the popularity of sports and promoting a healthy lifestyle.”
Gayibov said that within the framework of his visit to the regions, he participated in the opening of the "AF fitness" hall in Ganja, took an interest in its activities, and talked with trainers and specialists: "I participated in the conclusion of the project "Healthy Future" held in Mingachevir and congratulated the children who successfully completed the project. I also met with young people in Goygol. During the high-spirited meeting, we exchanged views on various topics. As you know, we meet with representatives of sports federations every two months. At our 15th meeting this time, we discussed the work done recently and the tasks ahead. At the Board meeting held in July, we made several decisions. Also, the updated list of national teams, coaches, and sportsmen's teams for 2024 was approved by voting. We held our next meeting with the heads of regional youth and sports departments, directors of Olympic Sports Complexes, Youth Houses, Children-Youth Sports Schools (UGIMs), and other subordinate organizations. At the meeting, we discussed the work done in the fields of youth and sports, as well as future activities. The members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Youth and Sports were also known.
