Santos forward Neymar spoke during halftime of the 36th round Serie A match against Sport Recife (3:0) about his injury and explained why he decided to take the field, reports Idman.biz.
“I would never harm my career at any moment, but that’s all I want to say. Everything else is just speculation. People have invented a lot of things, and it makes me sad and very uncomfortable. I’m a human being, and no one deserves to hear the nonsense I’ve heard recently. Everyone needs to be very careful because it harms the human mind,” Neymar said.
According to ESPN, the 33-year-old will most likely require arthroscopic surgery at the end of the season to treat a meniscus injury in his left knee. Currently, he is ready to play through the pain to help the club avoid relegation.
The Brazilian sustained the injury near the end of the match against Mirassol (1:1).
After the victory over Sport Recife, Santos reached 41 points and climbed to 15th place in the standings. The gap from the relegation zone is two points, but 17th-placed Vitória (39 points) still has a game in hand.
